You will be able to upgrade from SDL Trados Studio 2014 to Studio 2019 until 31st December 2018. The special upgrade pricing will close after that. If you are using Studio 2014, we recommend that you upgrade now to Studio 2017 and be the first to receive the new version as soon as it is launched.

9. Does the release of Studio 2019 have any impact on other versions of SDL Trados Studio?

+

SDL Trados Studio 2009, 2011, 2014, 2015 and 2017 will no longer be available for sale after the official launch of Studio 2019. Existing users of SDL Trados Studio 2009, 2011, 2014, 2015 and 2017 will be able to continue using their existing software packages.

An upgrade to Studio 2019 from Studio 2014, 2015 and 2017 will be possible until 31st December 2018, after which only upgrades from 2015 and 2017 will be available.

10. Is Studio 2019 compatible with previous versions of Studio?

+

Yes, we offer full compatability in terms of translation memory and bilingual files across Studio 2015, 2017 and 2019.

Although translation memories and bilingual files are compatible across Studio versions from 2009 to 2019, as we continue to add more features, there are potential discrepancies in feature availability, word counts and filters when working in older versions of Studio. Some of the latest features such as upLIFT are only fully available in Studio 2017 and 2019.

11. What version of GroupShare is Studio 2019 compatible with?

+
Studio 2019 is compatible with SDL Trados GroupShare 2017 (all versions) and SDL Trados GroupShare 2015. We recommend using the latest released versions of GroupShare 2017 and 2015. For details on latest releases, see our Knowledge base for GroupShare 2017 SR1 and GroupShare 2015.

12. Will there be a GroupShare major release? If so, when will it take place?

+

Based on our customers’ feedback, we are changing the release pattern of SDL Trados GroupShare. We will release more frequent updates via cumulative updates and, where necessary, service releases instead of full major releases. This helps our customers to have full re-installations less frequently than now. Against this background, there are no planned major releases in 2018 for GroupShare, effectively decoupling the GroupShare release cadence from SDL Trados Studio.

Since Studio 2019 is fully compatible with GroupShare 2017 and 2015, you will be able to continue working with that version. At the end of 2017, we released GroupShare 2017 SR1 with a number of key new features which include the SDL Online Editor, upLIFT for server-based TMs, and a new and more refined web user experience. Moving forward in 2018, we will enhance that release with a number of cumulative updates.

13. What are the system requirements for SDL Trados Studio 2019?

+

SDL Trados Studio 2019 supports Microsoft Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10.

As a minimum requirement, we recommend an Intel or compatible CPU-based computer with 4 GB RAM and a screen resolution of 1024x768.

For optimum performance, we recommend a 64-bit operating system, 16 GB RAM, an SSD drive and a recent Intel or compatible CPU. Full support for 4K hi-resolution screens is planned and will be implemented incrementally in future releases. You can find more information on how to deal with display issues in this KB article or by running an application from the SDL AppStore which implements a fix in the aforementioned KB article.

Note: SDL Trados Studio 2019 no longer supports Microsoft Windows XP or Microsoft Windows Vista. The reason behind this is that we moved to Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.2 that no longer runs on Windows XP/Vista.
