SDL Trados Studio 2019 will no longer be available for sale after the official launch of Studio 2021. However, existing users of SDL Trados Studio 2011, 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2019 will be able to continue using their existing software packages.

Is Studio 2021 compatible with previous versions of Studio?

Yes, we offer full compatability in terms of translation memory and bilingual files across Studio 2017, 2019 and 2021.

Although translation memories and bilingual files are compatible across Studio versions from 2009 to 2021, as we continue to add more features, there are potential discrepancies in feature availability, word counts and file types when working in older versions of Studio. Some of the latest features such as upLIFT are only fully available in Studio 2017, 2019 and 2021.

What version of GroupShare is Studio 2021 compatible with?

Studio 2021 is compatible with GroupShare 2020 and GroupShare 2017. We recommend using the latest released versions of GroupShare 2020 and 2017. For details on latest releases, see our Knowledge base for GroupShare 2020.

Will there be a GroupShare major release?

There are no planned major releases in 2020 for GroupShare. We will release more frequent updates via cumulative updates and, where necessary, service releases instead of full major releases for SDL Trados GroupShare. This helps our customers to have full re-installations less frequently than now.

Since Studio 2021 is fully compatible with GroupShare 2020 and 2017, you will be able to continue working with these versions.

What are the system requirements for SDL Trados Studio 2021?

SDL Trados Studio 2021 supports Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. We recommend Windows 10.

As a minimum requirement, we recommend an Intel or compatible CPU-based computer with 4 GB RAM and a screen resolution of 1024x768.

For optimum performance, we recommend a 64-bit operating system, 16 GB RAM, an SSD drive and a recent Intel or compatible CPU. Full support for 4K hi-resolution screens is planned and will be implemented incrementally in future releases. You can find more information on how to deal with display issues in this KB article or by running an application from the SDL AppStore which implements a fix in the aforementioned KB article.

Note: SDL Trados Studio 2021 uses .Net Framework 4.8

If I choose not to use SDL Trados Live, can I still do everything and work the same way in Studio 2021 that I currently do in Studio 2019?

SDL Trados Studio 2021 still offers you all the functionality you are familiar with from previous versions of SDL Trados Studio and more — nothing has been taken away. You can therefore use Studio 2021 without SDL Trados Live should you wish. For more information on Studio 2021, read our pre-launch brochure.

If I upgrade to Studio 2021 now, will I still be able to use my current version of SDL Trados Studio?

If you pre-order your upgrade to Studio 2021, you will still be able to use your current version of Studio until Studio 2021 is released.

If you are using SDL Trados Studio 2019 Freelance or SDL Trados Studio 2019 Professional (Single user licence only), you will be able to retain your Studio 2019 licence after upgrading to Studio 2021 and use both licences on the same machine.

If you are currently using SDL Trados Studio 2015/2017 and would like to continue using both versions after upgrading to Studio 2021, you should consider purchasing a full license instead of an upgrade.
