The great news for Studio users is that with the release of SDL Trados Studio 2019 we have introduced a brand new learning experience. You are now presented with the information you need to know in the form of ‘useful tips’. These readily accessible tips can make it easier for you to find the time to learn how to use Studio. Useful tips can be video tutorials, bite-size information on how to use a particular feature or detailed user guides.
Not only does SDL Trados Studio 2019’s on-boarding feature help new users to get up to speed with the basics, but there’s also plenty of tips and tricks for more experienced users who feel like they haven’t yet discovered all of the great functionality Studio has to offer.
Why this feature was needed
After hearing feedback from our customers that they wanted an easy way to get started with SDL Trados Studio and also continue learning how to get the most out of the tool, we created a new comprehensive learning experience. More specifically we have addressed the following user requests below:
1. I want to know how to use SDL Trados Studio straight away
From the moment users open Studio 2019 welcome screens will guide them through an introduction. New users are directed to watch a ‘Getting Started’ interactive tutorial which covers the basics of everything you will need to know to get up to speed with translating in Studio. The tutorial includes clickable hotspots for more information on a specific topic and selectable chapters. This complete introduction will ensure you feel confident to start work in Studio.
2. I don’t want to leave SDL Trados Studio to learn how to use it
SDL Trados Studio is the tool where many of our users spend most of their day working, because of this they want to be able to access help resources from directly within the software without leaving to scroll through websites. Useful tips are directly accessible from within Studio 2019 and all of the tips are also stored in one area called the “useful tips collection" for quick access to guidance. They include 21 tutorial videos, which range from more general information on how to open a project package to the specifics of how to translate a bilingual excel file. Many of these tutorials have been created by a certified SDL trainer and localized for you to enjoy in your own language.
3. I want to feel confident using each part of SDL Trados Studio
You have told us you would like to know how to use all of the relevant functionality in Studio but our research tells us that only 50% of users feel they know how to get the most out of their CAT tool. Something really nifty about the useful tips in Studio 2019 is that they are in context to the particular view you are in. For example, if you are in the reports view you will find a tip on how to run and read analysis reports, in the files view a tip on how to translate a PDF document and in the translation memories view a tip on how to align previously translated documents to create a translation memory. These tips are specifically created resources, readily available when you need them from directly within Studio to help users to master each part of the tool.
How to use this intuitive feature
To access the useful tips, click on the ‘useful tips’ tab on the right-hand side of Studio. You will then see all the tips relevant to that particular view. If you view a tip it will disappear from the ‘New’ section but the tip you just viewed will remain in the ‘All tips’ selection. We will continue to add and update tips and tricks, so look out for this in the new tips area.
All tips are available from the Useful Tips Collection, you can access this from the welcome view in the home tab. Click on the ‘Useful Tips Collection’ button to open up all of the tips available in Studio.
All of the tips have been localized into the Studio user interface languages. If you would like to view the tips in DE, FR, IT, RU, CN, JA, ES or KO, simply change the language of the interface by going to View > User Interface Language and selecting your desired language. You can remove the useful tips window by click on the X. To get it back at any point go to View > Reset windows layout.
I hope you enjoy finding and learning from the various tutorials, tips and tricks throughout Studio 2019.
