Have An ‘Appy October! A Look At The Latest Apps On The SDL AppStore
So what’s new?
A brand new app on the store this month that I’ve found really impressive is Record Source TU. Downloading it adds a new functionality to SDL Trados Studio 2015 that enables you to ‘stamp’ the name of the file you’re translating onto the Translation Unit in your TM. This makes it quick and easy to track exactly where each TU in your translation memories originated from. This is a really handy feature as you can carry out batch editing tasks to remove unwanted translations from your TM (without having to spend long lengths of time searching for them!).
Another recent app I like called Word Count Copy performs a very simple yet useful command in Studio 2015. It gives you the ability to copy the word count analysis from the projects or files view and paste it straight onto your clipboard. You can then paste it anywhere, such as in an email to a client or onto a Word document which displays the figures in a nice, neat table.
If you’ve got a competitive side or if you’re interested in finding out how productive you are working in Studio 2015 then I recommend the #YourProductivity app. It measures the keystrokes you save thanks to Studio 2015’s productivity boosting features (such as AutoSuggest) and generates a score. You can simply keep this score to yourself or you can tweet your score straight from Studio 2015 to share with other translators and mark your place on the leaderboard. Each month we reward the top 3 highest scorers with prizes and we also pick 4 entries to win at random so even if you’re not at the top, chance could be on your side!
An oldie but a goodie
The Glossary Converter is an app that has been around for a while now but I always like to mention it when I do presentations because it continues to be one the most popular apps on the store each month. If you’ve used it before, you may be thrilled to know that it recently was updated to be fully functional with Studio 2015. If you’ve yet to try it, it’s an excellent tool for terminology. With it, you can create SDL MultiTerm termbases within seconds from terminology glossaries created in formats such as Excel. Just drag and drop the selected files (you can do several at a time) into the app and they will convert into sdltb’s instantly and vice versa if you want to turn an sdltb into an Excel glossary.
Your chance to win by downloading an app
Throughout October SDL AppStore is running a prize draw where all SDL Trados Studio users can enter simply by visiting the App Store and downloading any app! What can you win? There’s a chance to win one of four €250 Amazon vouchers who we will pick out at random after the deadline which is the 31st of October.
You could treat yourself to some online shopping or maybe even start buying some early Christmas presents (although I think I prefer the former myself!). It’s the perfect time to browse the App Store and discover all the extra functionality, productivity boosters and time savers available for SDL Trados Studio. Good luck!
